Calgary lake access: what the community name does not tell you
Private association lakes, public water bodies and association amenities are different things — and access follows boundaries and fee classes.
Three different models
A private association lake is owned or operated by an association and access is limited to entitled members. A public water body is open to the public. An association amenity may be a clubhouse, park or beach operated by an association with its own rules.
Fee classes change what you get
Auburn Bay publishes Standard, Lake Access and Lake Shore classes for 2026/27. McKenzie Lake publishes General, Lake Access and Lake Shore. The class assigned to a specific property determines the amount owed — confirm it in writing rather than assuming.
Boundary, not name
The McKenzie Lake Residents Association publishes that entitlement is determined by the association boundary. An address with a lake-sounding community name does not by itself prove access.
